The McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition was established in the Spring of 2003 by a group of parents of youth with substance abuse issues, consumers, substance abuse/mental health providers, school representatives, juvenile justice representatives, and interested professionals to address substance abuse prevention and treatment. The Coalition members assist the Family CARE grant by providing substance abuse education and prevention activities to adolescents in school as well as their parents. The Coalition ensures that the youth and family members have a voice in the development of prevention activities and provide guidance to the development of treatment approaches to meet the needs of youth with substance abuse and mental health issues.
The Coalition provides answers and referrals for families struggling with alcohol and substance abuse questions. Meetings are open to any resident, consumer or professional in the county interested in substance abuse prevention and treatment. The Coalition meets on the fourth Monday of the month at the McHenry County Mental Health Board from 3 pm to 4:30 pm. Please call Candice Yeargin at 815-788-4360 with additional questions on the activities of the Coalition.
