Transitional Youth Work Group

The Transitional Youth Work Group was established in September, 2006, by a group of parents and youth from the Family CARE Family Council, mental health providers, school representatives, adult service providers, and interested community members. The purpose of the group is to identify major gaps in services for this underserved group of youth (ages 14 - 22), to be an advisory group to providers, to endorse grants, and to encourage the development of appropriate resources for this group of youth. This Work Group ensures that the youth and parents have a voice in the development of new resources to meet the growing needs of our transitional youth in the county. The group has endorsed Specific Treatment Protocols, has reviewed and endorsed evidence-based practices and trainings, has established a Housing Subcommittee to research housing options, and has provided the opportunity for many educational presentations to parents and youth.

The work group continues to seek more membership by youth, parents, school representatives, and adult and youth mental health providers. Please call Jane Montgomery or Liz Doyle at 815-788-4360 for more information on the group. The Transitional Youth Work Group meets monthly the first Thursday of the month at the McHenry County Mental Health Board from 5:30 pm to 7 pm
