How To Cope

It is important to understand that no one is to blame for mental illness.  It is said that one in five families is affected by mental illness.  Although there is currently no absolute cure for mental illness, new research is being done at this very moment to ensure that people are able to live healthy and successful lives with their mental illness.  

Here are a few things to help you on your journey.

  • Research as much as you can about your illness from trusted sources.
  • Don't blame anyone for your illness, including yourself.
  • Be hopeful. Stay positive and remember that many people live healthy productive lives.
  • Don't be afraid to talk about your illness with others. Being the support for others, in turn can support yourself. Join a support group.
  • Be yourself. Carry on with your life and the things you love to do.
  • Take care of yourself. Take time for yourself. Continue to enjoy your friends and activities.
  • Follow your treatment plan given by your therapists and physicians. Do not make alterations to your treatment plan unless directed by your doctor.
