The AmeriCorps of McHenry County is a National Service Program supported by funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service. It is a program that focuses on service, job training and youth leadership. This program has members serving at three different after-school centers around the county. The members are part of a larger service network through the state and the nation. AmeriCorps members earn a living-stipend while serving and earn an education scholarship when successfully completing there service term of one year or six months. These AmeriCorps members develop professional skills and gain hands-on knowledge of working with Latino youth (youth of other cultures?) and youth with emotional challenges. Most AmeriCorps Alumni report that they have a greater understanding of community needs and how they can better serve those needs.
